Privacy Policy

HomePlank (operated by Exhort Technologies, LLC) lets you save, organize, search, and share web pages ("bookmarks"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices — including the optional HomePlank browser extension.

What we collect

  • Account data: your email address, display name, and a hashed password (we never store the plaintext password).
  • Content you save: the URLs, titles, notes, tags, and organization (planks) you create, plus page content our server fetches from the URLs you save so we can generate previews, extract text for search, and (optionally) summarize.
  • Team data: if you create or join a team, your membership and shared bookmarks within that team.
  • Operational data: standard server logs (e.g. IP address, timestamps) used for security, rate limiting, and debugging.

The browser extension

  • When you click Save (or use the right-click menu), the extension reads the current tab's URL and title and sends them to your HomePlank account to create a bookmark. It only acts on the page when you ask it to.
  • Your HomePlank access token is stored locally in the browser's extension storage and sent only to your HomePlank server to authenticate your saves. You can revoke it anytime in Account → Browser extension.
  • The extension does not track your browsing, inject ads, or send your data to any third party other than your own HomePlank server.

AI features

Optional AI summaries and "ask" features send the relevant saved page text to a third-party large-language-model provider (currently Groq) to generate the response. Search embeddings and OCR are computed locally on our server and are not sent to any third party. If you don't use the AI features, no content is sent to the LLM provider.

How we use data

Only to provide the service: storing and displaying your bookmarks, search, previews/summaries, team sharing, account security, and (if you opt in) refresh notification emails. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Retention & your choices

You can delete bookmarks and planks at any time. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the address below. Cookies are used only for your signed-in session (authentication and CSRF protection) — not for tracking.
